Evaluation of preliminary Task

AS preliminary task from Jemma Goulds on Vimeo.

This year the Preliminary task criteria was very simple in consisted of one or two protagonists walking down a corridor, opening a door, entering a room, closing the door behind them, crossing over the room, sitting opposite either the second protagonist or an extra and having a conversation with them. With this there should have been; Match on action, shot/ reverse shot & 180 degree rule. My group included- Myrin, Terry, Duane and myself and we had chosen to show some sort of action themed story behind our Preliminary task.
Before we came up with our plot for the task we researched other Prelim tasks to see what kind of ideas we could gather from them. The examples that we had looked at were all very similar and to be fair pretty boring, as all of them had had the same kind of setting (school/college) and the same kind of story (being late or being in some sort of trouble with a teacher), so we thought that we should think of something outside the box. This is when we had chosen the idea of having an action theme. The first group meeting we had regarding our own prelim task was to think of what we were going to include in our short scene which was to last a maximum of 1.30 seconds. We also debated our location and went location spotting during our break until we found a suitable coffee shop down the road from our school. We first started filming and it was proven to be harder than we thought, we kept on re-filming shots and changing a few things in our storyboard until we were satisfied that it was what we wanted. If I could change anything I would possibly use a slightly better location were sound was at a normal rate. Other than that I believe that me and my team done a very good job and took our preliminary task one step further.
